Wow… Shades of 30 years ago. It’s a long story and a happy one. We are back to tenting.
We sold the 30 Dutchmen over the last winter after some long term medical problems and the prognosis that it probably wouldn’t be used by us again. Well for a variety of reasons I am proving the doctors wrong and they are great doctors.
Just two short weeks ago while reading the Sunday supplement pages of our local paper my bride of 30 years casually mentioned the price of tents and the sizes now available. To make a really long story a bit shorter (and less boring) we bought a tent and have been working feverishly to gather all the needed gear much of which we had in our “stuff from the trailer” boxes. I grinned going through the stuff as some of it has been with us through all our jouneys and some is just junk that I’ll never part with for sentimental reasons.
We decided that we had to be different this year with a few goals:
- Try new places
- Camp every week of the summer, except for treatment weeks.
- RELAX and ENJOY
Another large reason we can do this is after 39 years for my bride and 30 years for me we do not have any children in residence. I am so happy and proud of them and they are mavelous both marvelous young ladies.
So off we go after a couple of weeks of planning, running to camping departments of our favorite retailers (too many trips). I still can’t find my favorite old coffee pot. It was a 20 cup aluminum pot with a wire bail and a wire handle. I’ll find a replacement soon enough but I just know that that old pot is hiding out is some box in the garage.
This week we are heading off for a few days to Harold Parker State Forest, in North Andover, MA. I’ll update the posts upon our return.
Happy Campin’
Jerry
